Robert M. Lane, Chairman
Mr. Robert M. Lane, Chairman, has founded a number of healthcare
companies, most notably Cancer Treatment Centers of America
and Bariatric Treatment Centers, both specialized multi-hospital
companies. Mr. Lane has served as President of both firms
from their founding. He has significant experience in developing
companies in specialized niches of healthcare.
Mr. Lane has more than twenty years of experience in healthcare
administration. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in
Business Administration from the University of Detroit and
a Masters in Health Services Administration in Hospital Administration
from the University of Michigan. Additionally, he obtained
a Master of Science degree in Healthcare Finance from the
University of South Carolina.
He served as Administrative Assistant with Bon Secours Hospital
in Grosse Pointe, Michigan as well as Assistant Executive
Director with the Timken Mercy Medical Center, a 547-bed hospital
in Canton, Ohio, before joining Hospital Corporation of America
(HCA) in the strategic planning / new business development
arena.
After starting several successful ventures for HCA, Mr. Lane
began starting companies of his own. Mr. Lane’s most
recent successes are Cancer Treatment Centers and Bariatric
Treatment Centers, with hospitals ranging in size from 22
to 800 beds, delivering significantly improved financial results.
Mr. Lane has been a Diplomat in the American College of Healthcare
Executives, an Advanced Member of the Hospital Financial Management
Association, a member of the Canadian College of Health Service
Executives, and a member of the Board of Governors of the
Federation of American Healthcare Systems in Washington, D.C.
Duane A. Bernard, President
Mr. Duane A. Bernard,President, has a broad multi-industry
background in executive level finance and operations. Mr.
Bernard began his career with General Electric, achieving
success with many high profile and international assignments.
After reaching the Vice President level with GE Capital, Mr.
Bernard was a Senior Manager for Price Waterhouse advising
Fortune 25 companies on business strategies, information systems,
and performance measures.
After two short-term assignments with "turn around"
companies, Mr. Bernard partnered with Robert M. Lane in the
start-up company Bariatric Treatment Centers. In his role
as Chief Financial Officer – Senior Vice President and
Member of the Board of Directors, Mr. Bernard oversaw all
financial functions and was instrumental in the early strategic
development of the company.
With broad general industry experience, as well as a proven
track record in the field of bariatric surgery, Mr. Bernard
brings a vital skill set to Specialty Health’s hospital
partners. His keen financial analysis can yield substantial
bottom line results.
Mr. Bernard received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics
with a concentration in International Finance from the University
of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has completed coursework toward
a Masters degree in Business Administration at Pennsylvania
State University and is a Certified Management Accountant
(CMA).
